CineSpinner™ combines parallax perception, moiré–line type patterns and rotation to create the illusion of fluid motion.   Each disk is imprinted with a picket fence–like series of black stripes on one side, and a ‘scrambled image’ of the subject on the other.  As the CineSpinner™ rotates, orchestrated segments of the scrambled image are revealed through the breaks in the picket fence, delivering a series of sequential pictures to the eye. A viewer links this succession of images together, creating the illusion of movement.

When designing these works, Rufus Butler Seder tries to reproduce the signature motion that defines the essence of its subject. He wants us to feel the weightless, kinetic thrill of a dancer's leap or the unmistakable elastic coil and spring of a running cat.
